If you could live in a movie, what would it be and why? And does environment have anything to do with it?
My guess is environment has a lot to do with it. Setting, surroundings, and the characters, are the components that make up atmosphere, they are the things that most likely attract, excite, inspire, energize, and move you. They are the things that pull you in, fascinate and charm you.
Movies take us to places—locations and sites we enjoy stepping into; scenes and settings that satisfy our appetite for romance, mystery, action, adventure, and fun. Movies unlock emotion, open doors of imagination and engagement, and give us insight and access to people whose characters intrigue and inspire us.
Successful people, businesses, associations, and organizations do the same. They create environments that inspire. They design spaces that energize. They construct their time, and the way they live and move, in a way others enjoy dropping in on. And they frame both themselves and their surroundings with the kind of tone and mood and character—atmosphere—that draws people in and which moves them towards positive directions and favorable outcomes.
Take a moment to consider the places you have stepped into, the people you’ve met; the buildings, monuments, festivals, conferences, homes, kitchens, gardens, cities, shopping malls, museums, lodges, churches, chapels, offices, backyards…and ask yourself what it is about any of those places and the characters who occupied them that lifted you up and moved you. Add up all the elements in any of these environments and you have a thing called atmosphere.
The crucial question is this: what kind of atmosphere are you creating in both yourself and the spaces you occupy? And is it the kind of environment someone would want to step into, return to, and thank you for? If not, what are you waiting for? Begin now to create some movie magic out of each day God gives you!
